Working with the prints form our previous rotation, I have been trying to convert a print into a 3D wearable piece of art. To start with I looked at what different shapes I could find within my prints. This was an interesting task for my design was very chaotic; however I managed to find a few. Afterwards I had to introduce a 3D element that would allow these shapes and cuts to become a wearable piece of art.

With every unit I try to create a Pinterest board for me to draw inspiration from. The theme for this unit was body adornment and collaged fashion illustrations. Below is an initial example of a collaged fashion illustration. For a first attempt, I am rather happy with the results. I have always tried to make a fashion illustration, but they are never quite right, however, the proportions for this one just seem to work, for once.

The workshop for this unit was using the heat press and how the dyes respond to different materials. My heat press results were very varied, there are some that are rather successful but I, in my opinion, ruined them by introducing layers that just overpowered the underlying design. However, I definitely used this opportunity to explore the process in a variety of ways that showed me its strengths and weaknesses; it is definitely a technique that requires a good idea of how the pigments in the dyes work and a lot of practice.
