My second fine art rotation had us making short films still looking on emotions. We were set the task of making a film no longer than 2 minutes long with at least five different shots. In the space of time we are given we need to find a way of conveying emotion using visual language and narrative effectively.
To start this project off I tried to think of as many different emotion that I could; the point to this was so that I could try to find the best emotion that would work for me and allow me to fully engage myself in this project. To me this is essential as I struggle to think about my emotions and how I can translate them into my art.
I haven’t done much filming in my life and so I then found it appropriate to look into different filming techniques and how they can be used to make a creative fine art piece. I will attempt to use as many of these techniques that are suitable for the emotion that I eventually choose.
Once I had chosen my emotion and explored the different ways of filming, I started to develop my story board that would help me with my filming and editing process.
Considering that once I wanted to pursue a career in film, I found this task very difficult. Trying to film the different elements that I needed and then edit them together in a way that was narrative and flowing was very difficult. From the sequencing to find at least a semi-relevant soundtrack, there was some sort of obstacle in the way.
Overall I would say that my film hasn’t quite reached the standard and continuity that I wanted, however, the experience alone has definitely impacted the way I work and will continue to work in the future.
